Build Yourself a Quiet Room in Your Mind

Stressful situations  are all around us throughout the day  and since we cannot  control these stresfull inibitors, the next best thing is to build yourself a quiet room in your mind!
Physical relaxation is a powerful “dis-inhibitor” and relaxation means —no response. Therefore, in your daily practice of relaxation, you are learning disinhibition as well as providing yourself with nature’s own do-it-yourself tranquilizer, which you can take with you into your daily activities. Protect yourself from disturbing stimuli by maintaining the relaxed attitude.

~ A fact is that our disturbed feelings—our anger, hostility, fear, anxiety, insecurity, are caused by our own responses—not by externals.

Response means tension ~ Lack of response means relaxation

I learned recently that you absolutely cannot feel angry, fearful, anxious, insecure, “unsafe” as long as your muscles remain perfectly relaxed!

Build Yourself a Quiet Room in Your Mind

“Each of us needs a quiet room inside his own mind— like the deep of the ocean that is never disturbed, no matter how rough the waves may become upon the surface. This quiet room within, which is built in imagination, works as a mental and emotional decompression chamber. It depressurizes you from tensions, worry, pressures, stresses and strains, refreshes you and enables you to return to your work-a-day world better prepared to cope with it”. ~ Maxwell Maltz

What we need to do is to find a quiet center inside of ourselves and retreat into it periodically for rest, recuperation, and renewed vigor.

The best way for entering this quiet center is to build for yourself, in imagination, a little mental room. Furnish this room with whatever is most restful and refreshing to you. The room is plainly and simply furnished;  Simplicity, quietness, beauty, are the keynotes.

A Little Vacation Every Day

Whenever you have a few spare moments during the day—between appointments, at your kids games, at the the doctor’s office, retire into your quiet room. Whenever you begin to feel tension, or to feel rushed, retire into your quiet room for a few moments.

Just a very few minutes taken from a very busy day will more than pay for themselves. It is not time wasted, but time invested. Say to yourself, “I am going to rest a bit in my quiet room.”

See yourself sitting down in your favorite chair, completely relaxed and at peace with the world. Your room is safe. Nothing can touch you here.. There is nothing to worry about. You left your worries at the foot of the stairs. There are no decisions to be made here—no hurry, no bother.

Can You share what works for you on a daily basis to renew and refresh your body and mind?

  1. This is a wonderfully powerful technique.

I go to my ‘quiet room’ often during the day, entering on my breath and staying just long enough to let cares melt away.

My room too has quietness and beauty, but it’s far from simple lol

It looks rather Marie Antoinette’s bedroom at Versailles!

    • I love what you said Jacqueline… “staying just long enough to let cares melt away”. These few words are powerful and meaningful because that was the part I struggled with when starting meditating. I won’t call myself a Buddha but I’m able to reflect upon my day and my weeks more calmly and also take little quite vacations more often.

  2. I love this Nathalie – A quiet place – a place where the breathe meets reality – a still place – I go there all the time and it takes you right back to the moment…

Great post and I simply love your videos!

    Love and light my friend,

    • Hi Nancy, Again we speak of the moment…the now…We have to be so aware of our surroundings to achieve peace of mind and oneness. It takes persistence and many reminders! You do that for me ;)

Nathalie that was great, I think I’ve heard of this technique sometime in the past but I am a lot more receptive to the idea today.
    Thanks,

  4. Oh I love this idea and I actually already have a quiet room I can easily close my eyes and take myself to – a favorite beach spot on a small hill under a big shade tree looking down over the ocean and in the distance are the West Maui mountains. Magical!
