How to Avoid Stress When Working From Home

The knowledge that I have gained from years of trying to keep  things in places and insisting to have things remain quiet around me, have revealed themselves to have absolutely nothing to do with anything external…

When comes time to dealing with chaotic and unexpected  situations of working from home, I used to not have much patience at all!

Working from home is truly  something I enjoy but let’s face it, snow days, a sick child, a friend stopping by unexpectedly, these are just a few of the situations you have to take care of before you can return to any kind of business activities.

I used let stress take over me even though I knew it didn’t make sense for me  to not take charge of my emotions, as one of the beauty of working from home IS to be AVAILABLE when these situations arise!

I am far from having attained perfection of course however these simple but  precious tips have helped me tremendously and I thought I’d share this with you.

The Struggle is Not Where We Think It Is

It starts exactly at the core or your being! It starts with YOUR mindset and your personal growth! When you make certain that  you are working on your ability to grow as a better person and as a leader and learn the skills that can really make a difference in your life and in the way you handle certain situations.

Learn To Listen Well!

When you develop the ability to truly listen to others around you, you know you are on the right path!

Listen well  to your family,  friends and prospects as they WILL tell you their  needs and in turns, you can communicate your ideas and needs with them in a much more relaxed way. Learn to give your undivided attention to one person at a time.

Communicating clearly with others is  essential in order for you to be aware of what need to be done regardless of the countless interruptions.

Here are a few ways to get things in balance and find harmony when working from home.

~ Communicate CLEARLY what you expect of your children. Take the time it takes to make sure they know WHY you are doing what you are doing.

~ Set aside special 30 min play time of getting together sessions with them but make that time Really count!

~ Have your children participate by filing a few papers or dust an area of your office.

~ Tell your children how much you appreciate their help.

Your success has everything to do with being focused but it is the time you take to prepare yourself and the people around you that will truly give you peace of mind and let you have a super productive day even when distractions are coming up  left and right.

This will allow you to finally be productive and take care of priorities, your  family and your business at the same time. Yes it can be done!

To Your Brilliant Success,

Communication is of utmost importance Nathalie. For without it,chaos takes over and more often than not ones feelings tend to be impacted.

As for stress, we’ll always have it. It’s all about perspective and experience. What may be stressful in a negative way for you, may be the one thing that makes me come alive and feel good.

Keeping the portals of communication open is critical for a healthy family unit. When you add a home or small business to the mix it can certainly introduce some challenges. But knowing that from the onset and having a strategy to manage aspects of ‘family life’ can be a true blessing and a source of inner peace especially when it seems everything around you screams otherwise.

    Great tips!

As the previous poster said, stress is something we all have to deal with. We can make sure we have less of it for example by reducing the number of tasks we set for ourselves on a daily basis.

We may be well intended by creating a to do list that would keep us occupied every single minute of the day, but when we are not able to complete these tasks, this can in turn put pressure on us.

  3. Great tips Nathalie. I spent a decade in direct sales and for me the best and worst of it was working with “moms.” The best part was helping someone start or grow a home based business in a way that would enable her to stay home with her kids or make life better for the family. The worst part was all too often I could tell from day one when someone was likely to stumble – every meeting was dominated by virtual chaos at home and kids who had already been “trained” to use disruption as a way of keeping mom’s attention all for themselves.

    Hi Nathalie,

It certainly comes from within… If we don’t set boundaries and make sure that we know what we want and communicate it to others, they won’t know and we won’t know! Getting children to help and make their time important and uninterrupted is truly valuable! Learning to listen is very important too. Great points you have made here Nathalie! For me it is a work in prgress!!o

  5. I am working from home most of the time – 4 out of 5 days from my fulltime job. When I just started doing this, I would get distracted by chores at home and would end up very stressed and tired. Now that I’ve adjusted well alerady, I found that focusing on my work first and finishing what I need to finish that day would give me the time and energy to focus more on my kids when they get back to school. Chores can wait. But spending time with my family without distractions really gives me joy and energy. Excellent tips, Nathalie!

    • Hello Cherrie,

Oh! I totally relate with you Cherrie…I love that you have adjusted well and even though we don’t have to be super effective everyday, knowing that we give time to our kids is extra rewarding in all sense of the word!
